Services are offered both in person and online, providing a benefit for anyone living in rural Saskatchewan, or if you have any scheduling or lifestyle constraints that may create a barrier for accessing in person services.
Clients are encouraged to take time before and after appointments to reflect on goals, what is important to discuss during their time in session, and following a session, reflect on what they believe they got from their time. This can be beneficial for clients ensuring they are getting what they are seeking with focused intention.
Attending counselling can be stressful and evoke a variety of feelings and emotions! Something that may be helpful in preparation for a session is determining what you hope to achieve from counselling. If you aren't sure, determining what you hope to get from counselling can be a goal within the first session.
The first session often entails a lot of information sharing both from clients and from the counselling professional. This gives you insight to determine if you feel that you have found the right fit in pursuing your counselling goals.
At Shauna Giesbrecht Counselling Services, you are welcomed to a collaborative and supportive counselling process that integrates the aspects of Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems orientation and somatic integration.
This approach is characterized by curiosity, empathy, and unconditional positive regard, helping clients navigate life's challenges with compassion, openness, and understanding. Integrating the mind body experience, and lifespan narratives, we are given a deep and meaningful understanding of who we are, and where we may be going.
The length of time it takes to see benefits from counseling sessions varies depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some clients may see change after a few sessions, while others may engage in longer-term therapy. Often times building a therapeutic relationship takes time, and while it is considered one of the most important tools within the therapeutic space, additional tools are often integrated within the first session for clients to take with them.
